PART-TIME CHURCH PIANIST JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
A talented and dedicated Part-Time Church Pianist is needed to enhance worship services and support the music ministry through piano accompaniment. The role involves providing musical leadership and collaborating with church staff and volunteers to create a meaningful and inspiring worship experience.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide piano accompaniment for weekly traditional worship service and other special services, such as Christmas Eve and Easter.

Accompany the choir during rehearsals and performances.

Collaborate with the Minister of Music and other musicians to plan and execute musical selections that align with worship themes and enhance overall worship experience.

Coordinate with organist, plan, select, and prepare preludes, offertories, postludes, and other incidental music.

Work with the Minister of Music or relevant personnel to coordinate vacations or absences and assist in securing a substitute pianist.
Qualifications:
-
Proficiency in piano performance, including sight-reading and improvisation.

Experience in church worship and familiarity with various styles of worship music, including traditional hymns and contemporary worship.

Ability to accompany choir, soloists and congregational singing with skill and sensitivity.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-
A passion for worship music and an understanding of its role in a church setting.

Reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to scheduled services and rehearsals.

Formal music education or equivalent experience is a plus.
Hours and Compensation:
-
This is a part-time position, with an average of 3 hours per week, with additional hours possible for special events and seasons. The hours include the 8:30 am Sunday worship hour, weekly choir practice, and personal practice with the organist.

Compensation is negotiable based on the needs of the church and the experience and qualifications of the applicant.

Minister of Music and Worship 8:30 Service

Part-time 7-10 hours/week
The Minister of Music and Worship for 8:30 service of Bethany Baptist Church will work closely with our pastor and staff in cultivating worship services and worship teams that lead our congregation to see and savor the greatness of Jesus Christ through the power of the Spirit. Our key priority is fostering dynamic congregational worship, working collaboratively and creatively utilizing music in worship. We are seeking an individual who’s called and gifted by God in the following areas:
Ministry Responsibilities that Pertain to 8:30 Service

Plan, develop, organize, and lead worship, in collaboration with pastor, staff, choir, and other ministry teams, utilizing creativity and worship technologies, introducing new songs while honoring the old, and fostering an inviting environment where people can meet with God and grow spiritually through worship.

Recruit, train, prepare, and shepherd the musicians of the church (Choir/instrumentalists/special ensembles) to serve the congregation as a team with humility and excellence in musical skill while also nurturing spiritual and musical growth within the teams.

Lead weekly rehearsals that prepare team members in using their natural and spiritual gifts in worship and in ministry, building and maintaining a spiritually healthy team environment. Directly responsible for selection and preparation of music for the 8:30 service.

Provide oversight, direction, and leadership to the overall music ministry of the 8:30 service such as special ensembles/instrumental groups, musicals, cantatas, and other special music events.

Plan and oversee a comprehensive music ministry budget that involves the 8:30 service. This includes the maintenance of church owned instruments, new music, licenses, and anything that falls under the umbrella of music and worship for 8:30 service.

Organize and maintain the Church Music Library assuring that we are always copyright compliant, securing necessary authorizations from publishers and composers, and keeping all needed licenses.(CCLI)

Build on our traditions with a vision for where God might be calling our congregation and musicians to grow in new expressions of worship.
Qualifications and Musical Proficiencies

Has a developed theology of worship from a personal relationship with Christ, personal experience, and study.

Strong vocalist and prefer ability to play the piano.

Experience with conducting and an understanding of the expressive qualities of music.

Can read written music, particularly choral, with a working knowledge of musical elements (rhythm, texture, dynamics, pitch, form, harmony, timbre).

Prefer a working knowledge of audio visual equipment/ soundboards.
-
Is a team player with initiative, critical thinking, and problem solving. Agrees with foundations and direction of the church.

Has a growth mindset and stays up to date on trends in worship, musical skills, and worship leadership through Professional Development and study.

Prefer 3 - 5 years of experience and/or college degree.
Additional Responsibilities

Attend staff meetings and meet regularly with the Senior Pastor.

Serve on Church Council.

Coordinate regularly with the chair of the Audio-Visual Committee to determine needs for practices, services, and special events.

Serve as co-chair of the Worship Council.
